Banana Cake Again!

I baked them the week before the last. I baked them again last week. 2 consecutive weeks of banana cake baking. There is a slight difference hence this post.

So following last week's recipe, instead of 3 bananas, I made it with 4 bananas with no changes being made to the rest of the ingredients. 2 bananas for mashing into the cake batter and the other two were sliced and placed in between and on top of the cake. As you can see, this cake looked more browned.

The insides of the cake does not look like a banana cake at this point as there were no black speckles, aka seeds of banana, and the texture is like a sponge cake with sliced bananas. They were so shy that they only appeared the following morning.

Rejoice! It is a banana cake after all. They can be eaten warm or cold and tastes best on the 2nd day after and I like this one better than the previous one.

What I had for lunches...

Aloha! It has been sometime for a real post for what I had eaten for lunch. I forgot to take pictures for some of them and I promise to do a real documentation of what I am eating in future. These are quite random pictures.

What you didn't see:
  • coffee and sugarless soybean milk (Unisoy)
  • instant oatmeal porridge
  • things like miso soup from those miso paste sachets I got from Isetan Scotts.
  • tofu with french beans and tomato miso soup
  • salmon belly sashimi with scallions, lemon juice and XO sauce
  • baked fat free Koka instant noodles with XO sauce (thanks a lot Alice!) and squeeze of lemon
  • hard boiled egg with tomato sandwiches
  • Fruits like apples, papaya, watermelon
Mini portobellos with scallions and XO sauce.

These were excellent. The XO sauce has lots of scallops which helped in the flavouring and olive oil as the healthy fat in my diet did help in making the salad tasty. This warm mushroom salad is light on the palate and will definitely make you want to eat more.

Tuna salad with Couscous and sides of tomato with scallions and XO sauce

For the tuna, I had chopped up some red onions and mixed some pepper. The tomatoes were firm and juicy. Paired with couscous and tuna salad...mmm...my mouth waters...

Tuna, yogurt & chives with couscous

After you mix them up...

Yes...repeated ingredients are being used here but this was the best that I could manage. I used Greek yogurt here. A note to myself: next time use less chives. You can top this up with cashew nuts and it will be a filling and healthy lunch.

Cashew nuts and lemon for my water

These are my afternoon snacks. Do you know that a cut up lemon is a natural way of deodorising your space? Yes...my office space smells divine...

Until next time....

Mini crackers with cream cheese

These are really mini...but they look cute! Because of the cuteness, I wouldn't mind eating them even though the cheese cream tastes sweetish and fake. Lol. ;oP

Laphet Thot (Pickled Tea leaves Salad)

This is an interesting salad and an acquired tastebud is required as I feel it may not appeal to the more conservative(boring) ones. I like this.

A little crispy, a little nuttish in taste and texture, a little sourish and saltish. I think it has crispy chickpeas, tomatoes, tea leaves and some other stuff that I can't be really bothered to identify. This makes a good appetizer or TV snack as you can nibble all you want and still feel like you can eat a cow later. This is true for me.

I forgot how many servings did I have. I only know the accompanying floral tea makes this more appetising. More! More!!

My Packed Lunch

Cheddar cheese sandwich

Lunch box

I had a few considerations when packing my lunch to work. It must be fuss free aka easy to bring and wash. It must be tasty. It must look interesting.

I had prepared all these the night before and kept them refrigerated until I went off to work the next morning. The cheese sandwich was nice and cold and good to eat for breakfast or brunch or as a snack. In my lunch box, I had angel hair pasta, romaine lettuce, strawberry, seaweed and a biscuit. The bottle of pesto that I kept in the office came pretty useful.

As I had no microwave or any other way of cooking my lunch at work, I just boiled some water and used it to scald my pasta and lettuce. Drain the pasta, and toss in the pesto. Occasionally I would bring some lime and give it a good squeeze so that the pasta tastes good. Tear up some seaweed into the pasta and lunch is served!

Easy peasy.

The strawberry and biscuits are just snacks to munch on when I am hungry. I have tea and coffee to help out in case I feel hungry. But, I did not feel hungry and in fact, I feel much better to have lunch at work.

Any great lunch ideas anyone? Healthy and fuss free ones? Unhealthy and fuss free ones?

The Courtyard at Fullerton Hotel Singapore

Cam whoring at The Courtyard, Fullerton Hotel Singapore.

We were excited. The teas have arrived. We ordered the Vanilla Bourbon & Choco Mint Truffle Red Tea to share. Yes, that is a slice of kueh lapis. I did not eat it.

The setting makes you feel rich.

The Vanilla Bourbon Tea has a sweet vanilla scent. I liked it better than the Choco Mint Truffle.

Complementary munchies. The service was prompt and efficient today.

The star of the evening! Post Bar Fries with Caramelized Onion Mayo Dip.

Yummy!!

YUMMY!!!!

da Mario Pizzeria : Calamari Fritti

Yummy calamari...

A strong craving for calamari brought me to da Mario Pizzeria. I was fantasizing about calamari for weeks and finally my wish came true!!! I love this version of calamari fritti from da Mario because the batter was thin, crisp and the squid was fresh.

Taste wise, it was definitely much better than a lot of places. Service wise, was pretty good as the waiter was always smiling, taking orders and trying to be attentive to every customers in the restaurant. This was a rare sight and discovery. Kudos to the waiter!

SOYJOY - Apple Flavour

I was quite curious when I first saw SOYJOY. The wrapper looks interesting, so does its website too. I was wondering how it will taste like so I got one to try.

Tastes like fruit cake. A very hard fruit cake. The texture was like a hard, oil free fruit cake that crumbles once you take a bite.

I think I would prefer muesli bars and chocolate bars. Hmmm....

Anzac Biscuits with Whipped Cream

Anzac biscuit with whipped cream

What I had found out: ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. There were many variations as to how this biscuit came about but the most common saying was that the women/wives of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers made these during the WWI as a way of showing their support.

These biscuits went well with whipped cream. All leftovers from the fridge.

Dessert at Azabu Sabo

It is not my first time trying this dessert. The first time I had it was at the Central branch and it left a good enough impression for me to try their desserts again. This time I happened to be at Marina Square.

It didn't take too long for me to decide on this soft served vanilla ice cream on top of a warmed sweet potato cake drizzled with custard sauce. It didn't take too long for me to finish it too.

The vanilla soft served ice cream is quite common, having appeared in places like McD's and 7-Elevens and a lot of other places. What I am actually here for is the sweet potato cake. I suspect that it uses real sweet potatoes but added some eggs or maybe even sugar and baked them so that it tastes better.

I had wished for more custard sauce and the sweet potato cake to be warmer and that to be more affordable so that I can order 2 of these and finish them by myself. Make my wish come true!!!

White Cherries

White Cherries

Never judge a cherry by its colour! Although they may look unripe, these cherries are actually pretty sweet! It was given to me by my co-worker so I am not sure where to buy them or how much do they cost. This is to compensate for the earlier snack which was too greasy.

Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff

I just wanted a after lunch snack. Ok, I'm a glutton but I was just answering my cravings for something spicy so after lunch, I just happened to pass by this stall (Blk 91, Whampoa Drive, Whampoa Food Centre) selling curry puffs that were apparently famous and I didn't know! I usually refrain from ordering this kind of flaky puff but I was in the mood so I didn't mind.

Flaky puff skin = not my type

$1.20 a puff

This curry puff was too greasy for my liking. It did not came cheap so I had upped my expectations a little only to find out that it was not what I had preferred. They packed in a generous amount of curry potatoes which are not spicy at all. There was a slice of egg and chicken inside which did not help the puff at all in terms of taste. The pastry was too flaky and oily as you can see in the picture.

My cravings were not answered. :o(
