Herbal Jelly at Koong Woh Tong

Koong Woh Tong Sdn Bhd (恭和堂) is a chinese herbal tea shop which has quite a number of outlets in Malaysia. I tried this at the Genting Highlands outlet. They specialise in Herbal Jelly (Guilinggao) and herbal teas. They are quite popular despite the limited choices. I suppose each of the outlets have similar interior designs like gold coloured pots containing the herbal bitter teas and the big gold container which is actually a steamer in disguise, steaming the herbal jellies. I got the hot herbal jelly to try.

It came with a pot of diluted syrup. For some, they may find the jelly too diluted or watery for their taste. For me, it was perfect as the ultra smooth and wobbly jelly slided through my throat and went straight to my tummy. I liked that the syrup was diluted as I can just pour a lot of it and slurp it straight from the bowl. There was a bitter aftertaste which I did not mind. I could just drink their bitter tea the next time.

Prices: RM8 (small), RM10 (big).

No worries. You know OG at Chinatown that area got a shop sell "Lim Chee Guan" bak kwa not the main outlet. This is the branch just 2 shops away is this Herbal Jelly Shop. 1 bowl sells S$5:p But still not bad, I love it with lots of honey. If you like Herbal style Bak Kut Teh, the Lim Chee Guan shop sell this premix brand >> Starflower Brand “Best Bak Kut Teh Spices” S$3.20. Which is similar to KL style.

Meanwhile I am a secret reader of your blog. Love your baking recipe, will try to make mini brownies one day. The problem is I don't have mixer so have to maually whisk it:p Perharps will get my husband to the whisking as I am pregnant don't want to over stress myself. But this is my 1st baking project, give me luck;)

thank u for being my secret reader. haha! i think i know that part of chinatown. will go there soon!
if u don't have a whisk, maybe u can try the strawberry crumble recipe?

my brownie tastes more like a cake. if u keep them in fridge for 2 days, they will taste like denser chocolate cake. sometimes i adjust the butter & sugar. butter (125g) and raw sugar (100g). the cocoa powder i got was from carrefour. it tastes better. Good luck with your project!! LEMME know the results ok? post pics if u have to. ;oP

My friend is getting Crumble pre-mix from UK. if she manage to get that for me then it'll be a bake for this X'mas. Keke...

u can still use fine sugar but be aware of the amount to put in as it could be too sweet at times.

u can make the crumbles yourself too!

i realised that by not adding any wet ingredients, the crumbles stay more crisp. however, it is still best when eaten fresh.
